I'm celebrating thirty eight years in the world of work this week and yesterday I was reminded of one of my first ever sales calls back in 1978.
It was a great lesson about the importance of presence and charisma, and one I've never forgotten.
Of all the best sales people I've ever met, all of them had great presence and charisma - the same goes for many of today's so-called influencers on Social Media.
I don't know whether presence can be trained into people, but I know that charisma can - and it can have a lasting and profound impact on the performance of teams and leaders.
Check out charisma expert Nikki Owen who knows a thing or two about it.
“When you meet someone for the first time, if you are sitting in their reception area they subconsciously already have the upper hand. From now on, never ever sit in a reception area again – however long you have to wait.”
